Students who took part in workshops with illustrator Tracey Gibbs are invited to send their book cover illustrations to Tracey by email. She will then put them up on her blog at: TraceyGibbs.com.

If you would like to contact Tracey, please get in touch with the organisers or the school to obtain her email address.

Book Trailers!

Thanks to Glenn Nicholas of OM4, the clever person who set up this website, the amazing book trailers created by the Year 4s with Kiri Falls and Chris Nixon are now up on the site.

They are on a special page of their own called – wait for it – Book Trailers!, which you can get to from the top menu.

I had a great time at Rosalie Primary School today and the year 2s and year 3s worked so well – I loved reading your brilliant poems. (I hope some of you will send your stories, poems or artwork to Alphabet Soup – maybe one day I will read YOUR poem out on a school visit!)

Rosalie Writers Festival got off to a flying start today amid a flurry of streamers, party poppers, parents, book trailers, small actors, large authors, muffins, and laughs from Jon Doust.

But before we even got started, the Festival made it into the news.

Many of you will have seen the great article in the Post at the weekend. And this morning a long piece was published in the West Australian’s online news showing all the amazing book trailers made by Rosalie’s talented workshoppers!

My dad went to Rosalie too and had a great time!

One of the things I love about writing is being able to ‘go’ to different places and ‘be’ different people.

I’m excited about sharing Spider Lies and some of my other stories with everyone and showing how much fun writing can be. (And I’m sure Marge wears glasses every now and again!)

Festival publicity

Watch out for some articles in the papers over the next week or two. We have had journalists from the Post, the Western Suburbs Weekly, and the West Australian in school lately.

We also expect to see the book trailers made in the run-up to the Festival with Ms Kydd’s and Mr Yates’s classes on the West Australian’s website. These were created with guidance from Kiri Falls of Fremantle Press, and illustrator Chris Nixon. According to Mrs Krynen who has seen a preview, the book trailers are “just amazing”.

Hi everyone!

This is my first year at the Rosalie Writers Festival and I can’t wait to meet and work with the year 5, 6 and 7 students!

A little bit about myself – My name is Jane and just like you, I’m a student. I’m at university studying but in my spare time I love reading graphic novels and writing them. This year I published my first graphic novel (Smart Study) to help students learn more effectively and have more fun at school.

For our session, we’re going to be learning some memory techniques and ways to think creatively. Make sure you bring coloured pens, a sense of humour and your creative imagination!

I am delighted to be speaking at the Rosalie Writers Festival again. My parents both went to Rosalie Primary School and I have so many aunts, uncles and cousins who are ex-students that a ripple of excitement goes through the whole family whenever I revisit their old school.

Miss Llewellyn-Jones came with me last time and she will come with me again. This time she and Teddy go to Town to do some shopping. But this is a shopping trip like no other and Teddy has to be very resourceful to save himself from … but I don’t want to tell you the whole story just yet!
